Monitoring indoor air quality (IAQ) is becoming a hot topic, especially in new builds and social/rented housing. Selwood Housing who are a social housing provider in the south-west of England recently collaborated on a project to enhance their customer’s well being with the UK’s leading supplier of home safety technology, Aico. The pilot initiative involved installing Aico’s HomeLINK environmental sensors and Gateways in 100 properties.
With over 30 years in the business and over 7,000 properties, Selwood Housing are always looking for new and ingenious ways to improve their service and maintain safe household environments for their customers. The pilot scheme’s main goal was to incorporate Aico’s advanced sensor technology to monitor and manage the environmental conditions in these homes which had been previously identified as at risk - specifically monitoring temperature, humidity and indoor air quality with a view to gain insights for a safer and more comfortable living environment.
Not only were Aico providing the tech, but prior to installation, Peter Price-Higgott, the company’s regional specification manager for the area also provided Selwood’s team with their FIA CPD certified Expert Installer training. Strategically positioned in crucial areas like wet rooms, habitable spaces, and kitchens, the team installed Ei1025 Environmental Sensors. This installation process included integrating Aico's HomeLINK Gateway, facilitating seamless communication between the sensors and the user-friendly cloud-based HomeLINK Portal. The portal is accessible via both website and app and allows real-time data and customisable notifications. This ensures that Selwood can respond to each specific need with efficient resource allocation and in a timely manner. The training encompassed not only understanding the system features but also delved into how data is processed into actionable insights, risk scores, and intelligence regarding damp and mould risks. Recognizing the significance of continuous improvement, Aico promptly integrated feedback from Selwood Housing's users.
The collaboration between Selwood Housing and Aico in piloting HomeLINK Environmental Sensors and Gateways has showcased the potential for technology to enhance tenant well-being and improve property management efficiency. The valuable insights gained from the pilot program will shape future decisions regarding the adoption of technology, strategies for tenant engagement, and overall property management practices. Most importantly, the project has shown improved customer well-being, enhanced safety and in terms of adhering to the new government guidance on Understanding and addressing the health risks of damp and mould in the home, the technology installed shows Selwood Housing to be a proactive property management company.
