National Ventilation are also specification specialists with access not only to their own line of Monsoon products but also systems from all Volution Group manufacturers, allowing for a tailored system that fits all criteria, from performance to price.
With this in mind, let’s take a look at a recent specification undertaken by National Ventilation for a large new-build family home in the heart of the English countryside.
MVHR installation above the west wing bathrooms
For this 5-bed house, the designers needed a solution to maximising indoor air quality with zero compromise on heat retention and energy efficiency for the structure. Installing a system that incorporated supply as well as extraction, and across both ground and first floor, was decided on to increase the air movement throughout the L-shaped property. A tandem MVHR system design was implemented to meet these requirements.
MVHR installation position above the landing and main stairwell.
With two Vent Axia High Flow Sentinel Kinetic systems installed in the loft spaces, one above the master bedroom en-suite, and the second above the main stairwell landing, external supply and extract positions were placed in the roof. From these positions, the incoming supply and outgoing extracted air passes through silencers to minimise the transmission of motor noise through to the living areas in the home before connecting to the plenum supply boxes.
Installation of 75mm radial ducting in pairs prior to being attached to plenum boxes.
At this point, the incoming supply of fresh air is split into twin 75mm ducting runs to each internal supply point. From the landing mounted Sentinel, this fresh air is supplied to bedrooms 2 & 3, the landing bathroom/ two ports in the ground floor open plan kitchen/diner and the living room. From the En-suite system, supply is ducted to the master bedroom, en-suite, west-wing corridor, guest bathroom, bedrooms 4 & 5 and on the ground floor, the study.
2-D design plan for the first floor and attic spaces. This design shows the extract runs in red and the supply in blue as well as the positions of the two MVHR units.
For extraction, on the ground floor, two extraction points are placed in the kitchen, two in the utility area and one in the downstairs toilet and upstairs, extraction points are installed in all three bathrooms/en-suites and above the main stairwell. In addition to this there are two extract points in the loft space to capture the collected heat in the two well insulated attic spaces. Again, 75mm paired ducting runs are used from these points back to the plenum boxes, summing the airflow back through a silencer to the MVHR unit.
First floor 2-D design for supply and extract runs.
The specification for this design took into account the house design, specific building and ventilation regulations and both cost and aesthetic considerations to create a calculated, circulated air flow through the home. The ability to work alongside the architects and designers allowed for a fully integrated system that could be installed during the construction of the building, allowing for the systems to be integrated into the fabric of the building, hiding it from view. The 2-D and 3-D renderings of the system design from National Ventilation and their continued support to the contractors on-site lead to a seamless installation.
